Mathematics Teacher’s Responsibilities

As a Mathematics teacher, your roles and responsibilities include:

• Understanding curriculum requirements, and creating syllabi, lesson plans, and educational content that satisfy these requirements.
• Analyzing the needs, strengths, and weaknesses of students and structuring lessons and assessments around them.
• Adjusting teaching methods to suit different groups of learners.
• Creating engaging, stimulating lesson plans and asking frequent questions to make sure students are on track.
• Providing extra support to students requiring it, and more challenging tasks to those ahead of the class.
• Keeping abreast of developments and research in the field, and using this to ensure lessons are relevant.
• Reporting any progress issues to the head of the department, as well as the parents.
• Attending meetings, training sessions, workshops, conferences, and other continuing education initiatives.
• Supervising lab sessions, delivering practical demonstrations, and accompanying students on field trips.
• Keeping the line of communication open between students, staff, and parents.
• Prepare students for external exams and competitions.
• Teaching some other subjects like Geography and Business Studies.

Experience

• Prior teaching experience in Mathematics, Geography and Business Studies is preferred.
• Familiarity with curriculum development and educational best practices.
• Experience in integrating technology into the teaching-learning process.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in any science-related in Physics, Mathematics or Engineering
• Relevant teaching certification may be required.
• Vast ICT knowledge- programming experience would be advantageous.
• A completed teaching apprenticeship would be advantageous.
• Tutoring experience would be advantageous.
• Familiarity with different types of teaching styles.
• Patience, innovation, and knowledge of classroom management and student discipline.
• Strong multitasking abilities.
• Excellent leadership skills.
• Deep understanding of the Nigerian and British curriculum.
• Strong Mathematical skills.
• Strong communication skills.

• Your main goal will be to create a supportive learning environment that will help your students meet their learning goals. You’ll oversee their progress through interesting and diverse methods by tracking their assignment and exam grades to provide useful feedback.

Responsibilities

As an upper primary class teacher, you will be required to:

• organize classroom lectures and coursework
• help students prepare for standardized tests like common entrance examinations.
• engage students to ensure a lively classroom atmosphere
• collaborate with teaching staff and administrators to foster a good student experience
• identify students with special requirements and create individualized plans
• assign homework and interesting exercises
• communicate proficiently with students
• proficiently integrate technology into teaching
• provide feedback based on workload and classroom behaviour.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a grade 5 or 6 class teacher teacher
• Relevant teaching certification may be required.
• High proficiency in Mathematics and English
• Knowledge of various teaching methods
• Deep understanding of the Nigerian and British curricular for the upper primary.
