Sample Preparation Technician
JOB SUMMARY
To guarantee the prompt collection of representative samples and timely preparation according to the quality control plan and standard operating procedures.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- To abide by the 8 Mandatory Holcim Health, Safety and Environmental Rules to guarantee environmental safety and safety at the workplace as a condition of employment
- To be totally compliant with all safety rules, procedures & policies and work safely at all times by using all relevant PPEs for each job.
- To undertake the sampling/preparation of all raw materials (quarried and received) in strict accordance to the Quality Control Plan
- To undertake the sampling of all delivered fuels to the quarry, plant & the Calabar Grinding Station to comply with the zero-water tolerance regime
- To make routine sampling and preparation of the following samples during the shift according to the quality control plan and as directed by the shift chemist:
- Raw Mill
- Kiln feed
- Hot meal
- Clinker (Open yard and imported clinker)
- Cement (Dispatch, Contemporary, Bulk trucks, Jumbo bags, Auto Control etc.)
- Feeder samples (Cement Mills and Raw Mill)
- To carryout moisture content analysis for all feeder samples
- To carryout residue on sieves and moisture content of the above samples and on time
- To make non routine sampling (representatively) of quarry materials, raw mix, received materials e.g. iron ore, and fuel, imported gypsum and prepare homogenously for analyses whenever the need arises
- To undertake simple routine maintenance for all equipments in the Sample Preparation Lab and to maintain such maintenance records
- To update & preserve all test records in hard copy and in electronic forms
- To call for and support maintenance teams during corrective/preventive maintenance of Sample Preparation Laboratory equipment
- To maintain and update inventories for relevant spares, material and instruments in the Sample Prep Laboratory
- To report stock levels regularly to the Quality Coordinator to ensure prompt material request and deliveries
- To undertake all other sampling/preparation activities (special or non-routine samples) as may be demanded from time-to –time by the Chemists, Quality Coordinator and or the Quality Manager
- To carry out any other duty/assignment or work in any function as may be required due to job demands and or emerging circumstances by the Quality Coordinator or the Quality Manager.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)
- To be conversant with laboratory procedures and proficient in sampling and sample preparation.
PROFILE REQUIRED
Level of Education/qualifications normally required:
- Senior School Certificate or its equivalent
Specific Work experience:
- Requires Physical Strength and Fitness
Technical / Functional Skills:
- Ability to read and write
Behavioral competence:
- Sincerity and high integrity as it concerns sampling for quality control.
- Good interpersonal skills and able to work effectively in a team with excellent followership.
- Good oral & written communication skills.
Leadership and managerial abilities:
- Ability to quickly accept responsibility in a new and challenging situation and to work with minimal supervision.
