Procurement Manager
Job Description
- Implementation of strategic procurement policy in line with company’s objectives
- Implementation of the supply chain strategies
- Ensure availability of all critical raw materials, packaging, engineering and consumables of the right quantity at the right price and time.
Duties and Responsibilities
Date Base/Survey:
- Keep record of key suppliers with the updated contact details.
- Establish and maintain record of sufficient reliable and verifiable sources (COA, DFM, EU or local certifications) for all materials at very competitive prices
- Conducts periodical market surveys to know the prevailing market prices for proper bargaining as well as to aid effective benchmarking for materials.
Participate in S&OP:
- Work closely with the planners, marketing, and product development management to ensure smooth product launches.
- Have up to date information on products under development for follow up on raw material implications.
Procurement (P2P):
- Obtains stock replenishment advice for all materials from planning manager/user departments, places advert, collates and analyses the quotations in line with the category’s policy.
- Negotiate the best credit terms for raw, packaging and Engineering items in order to maximize working capital.
- Recommend appropriate penalties for defaulting suppliers.
- Manages sourcing and Importation of materials working closely with Regulatory officers for permits etc.
- Understand and adapt to controlled substance permit restrictions
- Provide necessary documents to finance team for proper import documentation
- Follow up on outstanding orders (progressing orders) and ensures prompt deliveries.
- Monitors supplier’s payment with a view to ensuring on time delivery of subsequent consignments.
- Negotiate, Develop and continuously renew contracts and service level agreements for projects, services across all functions
Cost Saving Initiatives:
- Ensure constant generation of useful management data and advise the business adequately as they affect procurement, stocks and distribution management.
- Suggest and implement other cost saving initiatives
- Commands credibility and gains supplier’s respect
- Promote procurement influence, while establishing long-lasting working relationships
- Play a key role in the leadership of cross-functional procurement team members.
- Coaching and on-the-job training for subordinates
Educational Qualifications
- A good University Degree or its equivalent in Science, Economics, Business Administration or Social Sciences with not less than 10 years cognate experience in manufacturing concern; preferably in the pharmaceutical or food industry. Must be impressionable and dynamic
- Must possess excellent human relations as well as being able to work independently as well as in a team to complete a given task under time and budget constraints.
- Sound Knowledge of Procurement Module of Business ERP
- Must be computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, in addition to being brilliant, analytical, proactive and result oriented.
- Registration with professional bodies like chartered institute of Purchasing and Supply will be an added advantage.
