Optometrist
Job Overview
- The Optometrist is responsible for performing vision tests and analysing results. He/she is responsible for diagnosing sight problems and prescribing eyeglasses and other visual aids.
Responsibilities
- Collect and enter patients data into the database(Acuitas) daily
- Provides outpatient care for patients with eye-related conditions.
- Conducts routine eye examinations, including glaucoma screening.
- Identifies safety factors that could impact vision and educates patients
- Refraction and prescribing the best corrective lenses to suit patients visual needs
- Assists patients in the selection of frames.
- Contact lens fitting and care, including explaining to patients how to clean and wear contact lenses.
- Promotes eye health by educating and counselling patients on eye related issues.
- Dispenses eye drops for the patients with minor ocular pathologies.
- Measures parameters for lens fitting e.g., wrap angle, BVD, fitting height, pupillary distance and pantoscopic tilt.
- Record all client job instructions in the tracking book
- Orders lenses from optical vendors.
- Reads off lens prescriptions using the focimeter, to ensure they have the accurate prescription and are properly fitted before dispensing.
- Issues prescriptions for spectacles and contact lenses
- Meets sales target with regards to selling of frames and lenses.
- Participates in routine eye screenings for children.
- Organizes clinical trainings for colleagues in the office.
- Writes referrals for patients who require further care.
- Liaises with sales representatives who sell vision care products.
- Assists the Ophthalmologist during her consultation sessions.
- Follows up on patients to remind them of their appointments and also ensures they are comfortable with their spectacle prescription.
- Send end of day report to management team (Optometrist on duty)
- Prepare and send HMO invoices by the end of the first week of the new month
- Carry out quality assurance on all lenses received from supplier (Ensure that the lens does not have any distortions or visible scratches and that lens meets all customers specifications)
- Carry out quality control on all finished jobs ( prescription)
Requirements
- Candidate should possess a Doctor of Optometry Degree
- Must be tech savvy
- High level of professionalism.
- Excellent organizational, problem solving, and time management skills.
- Must understand mathematical and scientific information
- Effective communication skills
- Detail oriented
- Must be able to adapt quickly to new technologies and equipment
- Ability to maintain high levels of concentration
- High level of emotional intelligence
- Should be able to work with children
- Good organizational and administrative skills
- Able to explain instructions in simple terms
