Legal Officer

Responsibilities:

  • Legal Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards governing the operation of an eye clinic in Nigeria.
  • Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with vendors, suppliers, and service providers. Ensure that contracts are legally sound, protect the interests of the clinic, and comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Risk Management: Identify and assess legal risks associated with clinic operations. Develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure proactive compliance with legal requirements.
  • Legal Advice: Provide legal advice and guidance to management and staff on various legal matters, including healthcare regulations, employment law, contractual issues, and patient rights.
  • Dispute Resolution: Manage legal disputes and conflicts that may arise, including contract disputes, patient complaints, and regulatory issues. Work towards efficient and amicable resolutions while protecting the clinic’s interests.
  • Policy Development: Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and mitigate risks. Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations affecting the healthcare industry.
  • Documentation and Record-keeping: Maintain accurate and organized legal records, including contracts, agreements, correspondence, and regulatory filings. Ensure compliance with record-keeping requirements and facilitate access to legal documentation as needed.
  • Training and Education: Conduct training sessions for clinic staff to enhance their understanding of legal issues relevant to their roles. Keep staff informed about changes in laws, regulations, and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law or a related field. Additional certifications or coursework in Healthcare Law or Medical Ethics are advantageous.
  • 3-5 years of experience working as a legal officer or in a similar legal role, preferably within the healthcare industry.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to interpret complex legal issues and provide practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in legal documentation and record-keeping.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools.
