Instrumentation Engineer (Refinery)

Job Summary

  • Ensure the entire refinery instrumentation systems installed in the units function efficiently to support operations and meet HSE, time, and cost targets.

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and calibrations when necessary, running diagnostic tests on machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Daily monitoring of installed instruments.
  • Assist the lead Instrument/Electronic engineer with instrumentation maintenance tasks.
  • Install and perform diagnostic tests on transmitters and final control elements.
  • Develop and implement maintenance plans.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation and control malfunctions and breakdowns, as well as configure and repair.
  • Document processes and maintain instrumentation service records.
  • Ensure all Instrument maintenance is recorded and compiled in line with statutory regulations.
  • Optimize efficiency by adjusting control valves, transmitters, and switch settings (tunings, calibration).
  • Document safe work procedures to support all the information of the processes and continuously optimize them.
  • Ensure the correct operation of the safety instrumented functions (SIF) following the cause-and-effect matrix.

Educational Qualifications

  • BSC/HND degree in Electrical/Electronic with good work experience in the field of Instrumentation.
  • 3-5 years of instrumentation engineering experience in a refinery or similar operations, e. g. oil/gas sector
  • Exhibit solid knowledge of electronic, instrumentation, control, and electrical performance standards and experience in a similar field of specialization.
  • Relationship and communication skills.
  • Innovative thinking, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in diverse teams and clarify complex concepts.
  • Result-oriented with proven zeal for delivery and execution.
  • Proficiency in design and diagnostic testing software.

Job Summary

  • Provide support for refinery operations and execute agreed (refinery) production targets – volume, quality, environmental, and effluent standards – through the optimization of business processes and assuring operational excellence in the refinery.

Main Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, maximize facility performance, and reliability and ensure adherence to technical and operating policies, procedures, and standards to maintain asset integrity, and maintain plant availability by effectively reviewing operating parameters as required.
  • View, enter, control, edit, and process operating data that supports daily refinery operations and distribute information to relevant parties for analysis to optimize and meet contractual agreements with stakeholders.
  • Track, analyze, and improve key refinery maintenance parameters such as equipment utilization, maintenance cost, schedule compliance, etc. to improve the efficiency of the refinery.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the facility’s Site Operating Procedures and development of task-based procedures as a tool for training staff and manning the facility efficiently to enhance refining and operations efficiency
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relations with all stakeholders in the course of the work and make constructive contributions within their immediate team to sustain and meet targets.
  • Take immediate action in case of alarm by following operating manuals/procedures. Identify and report possible anomalies and cooperate in defining corrective actions to prevent facility shutdown and improve the uptime of the facilities.
  • Ensure correct referral and escalation of issues; adhere to industry codes and standards as well as department practices and procedures.
  • Participate in all site drills and training to help develop knowledge and understanding of the operation of the operating system.
  • Participate in pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up activities of new/modified facilities to improve knowledge, and skill, and improve production.
  • Understand and work, based on approved operating parameters (level, pressure, flow rate & temperature using appropriate tools) set points to meet process and product requirements to meet Third-party customer demands.
  • Conduct quality control checks and ensure high quality of finished product.
  • Participate in Emergency response action in an emergency. May be required to act as an Emergency Response  Focal Point in an emergency to safeguard personnel, equipment, and environment.
  • Ensure adherence to HSSE rules for both personal and refinery safety and security

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Related Degree.  Minimum of 2 years’ experience preferred.
