The Job
- The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University, exofficio Chairman of the Senate and Member of the Governing Council of the University.
Among his other functions, the Vice Chancellor shall:
- Be competent at all times to advise the Governing Council on any matter affecting the policy, finance, and administration of the University;
- Be generally responsible to the Governing Council for maintaining the efficiency and good order of the University and for ensuring the proper enforcement of Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations;
- Be responsible for discipline in the University;
- Regulate admission of students in accordance with the guidelines and procedures approved by the Senate.
Qualities and Qualifications of the Candidates
Interested candidates for the position of Vice Chancellor, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, are expected to be:
- Distinguished scholars who are Professors with demonstrated ability to provide exemplary academic leadership and proven managerial capacity.
- Scholars of the highest moral standards and impeccable character and proven integrity with irrevocable commitment to best practices in corporate governance, with particular emphasis on accountability, transparency and probity, and must be scholars who can ensure optimum utilization of scarce resources for maximum public good.
- Scholars with irrevocable commitment to the cardinal values of merit, consistency and fairness as operating principles and who can apply these across the board without succumbing to sociopolitical pressure, in particular, and must not cave in under societal pressures out of the desire to remain in office.
- Scholars who are Information and Communication Technology (ICT) proficient, committed to the mainstreaming of ICT into University wide programmes and activities.
- Scholars who will be able to attract research grants and complementary funds from local and international agencies, and further uplift the academic stature of the University.
- Scholars with capacity to relate effectively and productively with the government, non-government agencies, the Alumni, staff unions, the local community and foster linkages with institutions within and outside Nigeria.
- Scholars with moral uprightness, who are not likely to foster personal, racial, ethnic, political, religious or other sectional interest and who are also capable of inspiring the members of University community towards the attainment of its goals.
- Scholars with good understanding of the Vision and Mission of the University.
- Scholars who, judging from their tract records, are likely to command the respect as well as loyalty of members of staff, students and University community.
- Persons who enjoy excellent, physical and mental health, and should not be more than 60 years at the time of assumption of duty.
Tenure:
- The Vice Chancellor shall hold office for a one-term period of five (5) years.
Salary and Conditions of Service
Renumeration and conditions of service are as applicable to the post of Vice Chancellor in Nigerian Federal Universities as determined by Government and the Governing Council of the University from time to time.

Method of Application
The Position
- The Registrar is the Chief Administrative Officer of the University and shall be responsible to the Vice Chancellor for the day-to-day administrative work of the University except as regards matters for which the Bursar is responsible in accordance with Section 6(2) of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Decree No. 11 of 1993.
- The Registrar is by virtue of that office, also Secretary to Council, Senate, Congregation and Convocation.
Qualifications
- Candidates must possess good honours Degree not below second class (lower division) in Arts and Humanities obtained from a recognized University as well as membership of any recognized relevant professional body.
- The candidates must have had not less than fifteen (15) years of post-qualification experience preferably in a University or comparable institution.
- The Candidates must not be below the rank of Deputy Registrar or cognate senior management position.
- They must also be Information and Communication Technology (ICT) compliant and command respect and be able to carry colleagues along.
- The possession of higher degree(s) would be an added advantage.
- The Candidates must not be more than sixty (60) years at the time of assumption of duty.
Salary and Conditions of Service
- Remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of a Registrar in Nigerian Federal Universities and as may be determined from time to time by the Federal Government of Nigeria / Governing Council as appropriate.
- In accordance with the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Decree No. 11 of 1993 (as amended), section 6(4) and 6(5), the successful candidates shall hold office for five years in the first instance.
- The appointment may however be renewed for one year and no more.
- Fringe benefits include pension in consonance with the Contributory Pension Scheme and appropriate allowances as may be approved from time to time by the Government/University Council.
