Investment Manager
Our client domiciled in the Ikoyi in Lagos, invests in off-grid energy solutions spanning solar, wind, hydro, biomass and gas technologies and helps bridge the significant energy gap in Nigeria. It is looking to recruit a competent, self-motivated and dedicated Investment Manager to join the team and help drive its organisational goals.
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- You will lead the Investment Team, responsible for deal origination and delivery.
- You will manage and supervise all aspects of transactions, including, but not limited to supervision of financial modeling, due diligence, term sheet drafting and negotiations, investment committee memorandums, deal closing.
- You will work in a high-energy environment and supervise the Investment team.
Responsibilities
- Lead deal origination and deal delivery; the role will involve all aspects of origination, deal structuring, negotiation, due diligence through to deal completion.
- Execute market/segment selection, generation, and evaluation of leads for viable partnerships, projects, and platform investments, establishing relationships with potential counterparties and finding a deal space.
- Lead and supporting deals, coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and investment decision-making processes, taking accountability for deal workstreams such as due diligence.
- Manage the investment team.
- Develop strategic investments plan to build a robust pipeline of investible projects.
- Participate in review and support of financial management planning for the firm’s investees.
Requirements
- Degree in finance, economics, mathematics, accounting or business administration + relevant certifications – though possession of relevant experience and expertise is more important.
- 15+ years of experience as an investment professional at continuously more senior levels.
- Experience in the Energy Access sector including developing strategy, origination and deal delivery, specifically in decentralized renewable energy solutions (e.g. solar home systems, battery-as-a-service, minigrids, cold storage etc.) would be beneficial.
- Significant experience in leading negotiations, leading due diligence, ensuring deal completion and project management.
- Significant experience in the preparation of investment documents.
- Experience working in Nigeria and with Nigeria-focused businesses.
- Governance experience would be an advantage (e.g. JVs, shareholder reps).
- Experience with regulatory frameworks, permitting and working with governments and DFIs.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and demonstrated experience in working across organisational boundaries, and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong focus on safety and deep understanding of sustainability issues.
- Strong communication skills, and fluency in English.
- Living close to Ikoyi environs will be an added advantage.
