Head of Human Resources
Position Overview:
- The Head of Human Resources (Legal Background) will oversee all aspects of HR management with a primary focus on legal compliance.
- This role requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in both HR and legal fields, capable of interpreting and implementing labor laws and regulations in Nigeria.
- The ideal candidate will lead HR initiatives, policies, and procedures to ensure alignment with legal requirements while fostering a positive work culture and employee relations.
Responsibilities:
Legal Compliance:
- Interpret and ensure compliance with Nigerian labor laws, regulations, and statutory requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures in accordance with legal standards.
- Conduct regular audits to assess HR practices and processes for legal compliance.
- Provide legal guidance and support on employee relations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Represent the company in legal proceedings related to HR matters, including disputes, investigations, and claims
HR Strategy and Planning:
- Develop and execute HR strategies, initiatives, and programs aligned with organizational objectives.
- Collaborate with senior management to forecast HR needs, develop workforce plans, and drive talent acquisition strategies.
- Lead the development and implementation of performance management systems, employee development programs, and succession planning.
Talent Management and Development:
- Oversee recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes to attract and retain top talent.
- Develop and implement training and development programs to enhance employee skills and capabilities.
- Monitor employee performance, conduct performance evaluations, and facilitate career development discussions.
Employee Relations and Engagement:
- Foster positive employee relations by addressing grievances, conflicts, and workplace issues promptly and effectively.
- Implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement, morale, and productivity.
- Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization.
HR Administration and Record Keeping:
- Oversee HR administration functions, including payroll processing, benefits administration, and personnel record keeping.
- Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of employee records, contracts, and documentation.
- Manage HR budgets, expenses, and resources effectively.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in HR management, with a strong legal background.
- Proven knowledge and understanding of Nigerian labor laws, regulations, and employment practices.
- Previous experience in a leadership role, preferably in a legal or HR capacity.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with integrity.
- Relevant professional certifications or memberships (e.g., Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria) preferred.
