Head of Department – Nursing
Overall Function
- As the Head of Department for Nursing at Miva Open University, you will lead and oversee the Nursing department.
- You will be responsible for providing strategic direction, managing academic programs, and fostering a dynamic learning environment.
- The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of Nursing principles, and a passion for delivering high-quality online education.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide visionary leadership to the Nursing department, ensuring alignment with the university’s mission and goals.
- Develop and implement academic strategies and policies in line with industry standards and emerging trends in Nursing.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of high-quality online Nursing courses and programs.
- Manage and mentor a team of Nursing faculty members, promoting excellence in teaching, research, and curriculum development.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure interdisciplinary integration and program coordination.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students, promoting their academic success and professional growth.
- Stay updated with advancements in the field of Nursing and incorporate relevant topics into the curriculum.
- Lead accreditation efforts and ensure compliance with relevant educational regulations and standards.
- Engage in ongoing assessment and evaluation of departmental programs to drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with industry partners and business organizations to facilitate internships, networking opportunities, and industry collaborations.
- Participate in recruitment efforts to attract and retain talented faculty members.
Qualifications
- A Ph.D in Nursing or a related field.
- University teaching experience, with a minimum rank of Senior Lecturer.
- Proven experience in a leadership role within an academic institution, preferably in an online distance learning environment.
- Extensive knowledge and expertise in Nursing principles, practices, and theories.
- Strong understanding of curriculum development and instructional methodologies in Nursing education.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and mentor faculty members, promoting excellence in teaching and research.
- Familiarity with online learning platforms, instructional technologies, and learning management systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- A passion for online education and a commitment to providing high-quality learning experiences for students.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
