Tasks and activities of the role
Leadership and Management
- Develop and implement the strategic direction for the legal and compliance function.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of legal and compliance professionals.
- Ensure the alignment of the legal and compliance strategy with the overall business objectives.
Legal Advisory
- Provide expert legal advice to the executive team and board of directors on a broad range of issues, including corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, employment law, and regulatory matters.
- Oversee the drafting, review, and negotiation of all critical contracts and agreements.
Compliance Oversight
- Design, implement, and maintain a robust compliance program to ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments.
- Stay abreast of changes in laws and regulations that may impact the company and ensure proactive compliance measures are in place.
Risk Management
- Identify and mitigate legal and compliance risks across all business units.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to manage risk effectively.
- Handle any legal disputes, litigation, or investigations, and manage relationships with external legal counsel.
International and Cross-Border Operations
- Oversee legal and compliance matters related to the company’s offshore, local, and international operations, ensuring all activities are compliant with local, regional, and international laws.
- Coordinate with local legal and compliance teams in different jurisdictions to manage and harmonize global compliance efforts.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities and other external stakeholders. Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including senior management, board members, and external partners.
Policy Development
- Develop and implement corporate policies and procedures to ensure ethical business practices.
- Promote a culture of compliance and integrity within the organization.
Training and Education
- Lead training programs for employees on legal and compliance matters to foster a culture of compliance.
- Provide ongoing education and updates to the executive team and board on relevant legal and compliance issues.
Requirements
Qualification
- LL. B Degree from an accredited institution. LL.M from an accredited University is an added advantage
Professional experience
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in legal and compliance roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position
- Proven experience at a multinational is essential.
- Demonstrated experience managing legal and compliance functions in a multinational organization.

- Strong leadership and managerial skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Deep understanding of international legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
