Grant Manager (MSAs/Fund-Raising)

  • The ideal candidate for this role must demonstrate excellent skill in acquiring and managing grants from philanthropy, projects, and research.

Responsibilities:

Essential duties/ key job roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following;

  • Interacting with various groups in the institution to access their grant needs and determine possible sources of such grants.
  • Developing a database of the funding needs of the entire institution and possible sources of such grants.
  • Designing grant programs.
  • Identify prospective funding sources, new funding initiatives, and support for all the institutions activities.
  • Liaising with funding bodies on their procedures, regulations, terms, and conditions to ensure these are adhered to promptly and accurately.
  • Manage applications for all grants including proposal development, budgeting, completion of proposal forms, progress report submission, expenditure reconciliation, grant compliance requirements, subcontracts, renewals, exit, and sponsors terms and conditions.
  • Optimizing the grant administration process.
  • Managing timelines and deliverables.
  • Preparing and monitoring budgets.
  • Tracking grant applications.

Requirements
Skills:

  • Demonstrate excellent skill in acquiring and managing grants from philanthropy, projects, and research.
  • Must have very strong skills in one of the grant types and good skills in the other two.
  • Evidence of scholarship in research.
  • Must have published at least 3 papers in a peer-reviewed journal.

Others:

  • Maintain liaison and effective communication and build beneficial relationships with individuals and organizations at various levels across the grant community.
  • Provide technical support to the Research Director in strategic planning and implementation of policies and procedures to promote grant activities in the institution.
  • Identify prospective participants and coordinate the development of faculty interdisciplinary research teams and other proposals.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops, meetings, or conferences that enhance the grant skills of faculty and professionals within the institution.
  • Prepare substantive administrative reports and documents.
  • Manage a varying voluminous caseload of complex assignments and projects from multiple sponsors requiring deadlines and timely submissions.
  • Represent the unit in committees and relevant university meetings.
  • Any other specific or ad hoc duty to be assigned by the line manager from time to time.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or 3-7 years of work experience in grant writing).
  • MBA is an added advantage
  • Demonstrate analytical and persuasive writing skills experience as well as superior editing skills, including the ability to convey complex information clearly to a diverse audience.
  • Strong administrative skills, self-motivated, with the ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks under minimal supervision effectively and efficiently.
  • Intermediate to expert skills in Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity and experience working with national, governmental, and other external funders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond to deadlines without sacrificing quality.
  • Must have 5+ years of experience in fundraising, grant writing & grants management.
  • Must have 3+ years dealing directly with grant donors locally and internationally.
  • Must have 3+ years of direct involvement in philanthropy, project, and research initiatives.
