Financial Audit Specialist

Job Summary

  • The Financial Audit Specialist reviews the company’s financial statements, documents, data, and accounting entries.
  • This is achieved by gathering information from the financial reporting systems, account balances, cash flow statements, income statements, balance sheets, tax returns, and internal control systems and reviewing the information to ensure that no fraud or material errors are present in the company.

  • Improving the design of the financial audit process using common standards of practice (such as IFRS), company policies, business goals and industry regulations.
  • Carrying out risk assessment to indicate areas where risk is found (that is, likely sources of potential misstatements) in order to generate a more complete picture of financial responsibility.
  • Analyzing adherence with budgetary standards and guidelines using financial data and balance sheets.
  • Defining and leading the execution of expense audit projects in accordance with the annual audit plan in order to spot errors, inefficiencies or instances of misuse.
  • Periodically confirming stakeholders’ holdings, account balances or debt obligations by reviewing databases and other financial sources of information.
  • Owning the audit quality, accuracy of results, and delivery in a timely manner. Physical and digital audit documentation is to be collected, prepared, organized and retained as needed while keeping all sensitive information confidential and secure.
  • Planning, leading, and reporting for risk based special request audit assignments.
  • Carrying out revenue assurance over income and expense FSLIs using relevant tools such as Audit Command Language (ACL) and Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Serving as a liaison with external parties and regulators to facilitate timely and efficient external reviews, knowledge transfer, and controls and process education.
  • Working to develop new standards of practice within a company in order to increase accounting accuracy and integrity.
  • Assisting other stakeholders in determining valuations, figures, and projections.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Developing a strong understanding of business and system processes; and proactively identifying regulatory, operational, and/or strategic risks to the organization and deliver recommendations for improvements to Squad Lead/management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of audit experience in conducting financial statements audits and projects.
  • A thorough understanding of key areas such as risk, compliance, and financial legislation.
  • Certification from Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA)or American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), or similar certification is a plus.
  • Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) audit experience is a plus.
  • Experience working in a complex, fast paced environment required. Consulting/accounting firm experience is a plus.
