Finance Associate

Job Summary

  • We are looking for a Finance Associate who will support in keeping track of the organization’s finances, enter data into databases, prepare financial statements, process invoices, and support other employees throughout any accounting processes.

  • We are looking for a Finance Associate who will support in keeping track of the organization’s finances, enter data into databases, prepare financial statements, process invoices, and support other employees throughout any accounting processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Proper filing of financial documents.
  • Assist in ensuring monthly taxes are remitted to the appropriate authorities.
  • Posting of transactions on the organisation’s accounting software.
  • Ensure proper management and disbursement of organisations’ petty cash.
  • Assist the Finance Manager in generating monthly reports for country projects and the secretariat.
  • Assist with the audit process.
  • Accurate record keeping of AfriLabs property and equipment.
  • Support other office day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure payments go out to vendors, consultants or hub members in a timely manner.
  • Follow up with the Organizations Financial institutions with pending payment and provide updates.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Required Skills, Qualifications & Abilities: 

Qualifications & Experience

  • BSc/HND in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance from an accredited academic institution
  • Partly qualified or student membership of ICAN/ACCA will be an added advantage
  • Minimum of 2-3 years internal or external audit, compliance work experience from NGOs or Audit Firm is highly desirable. 
  • Previous experience in finance or accounting roles, preferably in an NGO or nonprofit setting is  preferred. 
  • Familiarity with donor-funded projects and grant management processes is advantageous.
  • Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, auditing, or financial analysis.
  • Experience with compliance and regulatory requirements relevant to NGOs, such as those related  to grants and  other charitable contributions.

 Skills

  • Accounting: Understanding of basic accounting principles and practices, including knowledge of financial statements.
  • Budgeting and Financial Planning: Proficiency in creating, managing, and monitoring budgets for  programs and projects.
  • Financial Reporting: Ability to prepare financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including  donors, grantors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Financial Software: Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks.
  • Microsoft Excel: Strong Excel skills essential for financial analysis, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy and precision in financial record-keeping and reporting.
  • Communication: Good written and verbal communication skills, particularly in explaining financial  information to non-finance staff and stakeholders.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in finance and across other departments.
  • Problem-Solving: Capacity to identify financial issues, propose solutions, and implement changes as  needed.
  • Analytical Thinking: Capacity to think critically and analytically to solve complex financial problems.
