Director of Programs
ABOUT THE POSITION
- The Director of Programs will play a critical leadership role within Intersex Nigeria, responsible for the overall strategic direction, development, and execution of all programs and initiatives.
- This position ensures that our programs effectively address the diverse needs of intersex individuals and align with our mission and values.
- The Director of Programs will lead a dynamic team of program staff, work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, and drive efforts to promote advocacy, awareness, empowerment and support for the intersex community in all their diversity.
- This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of intersex issues, strong leadership capabilities, and excellent communication skills. The Director of Programs will be instrumental in advancing our mission, supporting our community, and driving systemic change.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Management and Development
- Develop and implement a comprehensive program strategy that aligns with the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.
- Lead the design, execution, and evaluation of all programs.
- Ensure programs meet intersex community needs and organizational goals.
- Oversee implementation of strategic plans, work plans, and budgets for programs.
- Monitor and adjust program activities as necessary for optimal impact.
Leadership and Team Management
- Identify needs within the intersex community, design impactful programs, and ensure they are effectively implemented and managed.
- Lead, mentor, and manage the program team, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high- performing work environment.
- Supervise and support program staff, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
- Provide professional development and training opportunities for team members.
- Conduct regular meetings to review progress and address any challenges.
Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships
- Represent the organization at various meetings, conferences, and public events.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with intersex individuals, community organizations,
- healthcare providers, policymakers, and other stakeholders
- Collaborate with partners to enhance the reach and impact of programs.
- Advocacy and Public Awareness
- Develop and execute advocacy initiatives to promote intersex rights and raise public awareness
- through campaigns, educational materials, and media engagement.
- Oversee the creation and dissemination of educational materials and awareness campaigns.
- Engage with the media and the public to raise awareness about intersex issues.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Oversee implementation of robust monitoring and evaluation systems to measure program impact and effectiveness, ensuring continuous improvement and accountability.
- Oversee program budgets, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and effectively to maximize program impact.
- Establish frameworks for monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness.
- Collect and analyse data to assess program outcomes.
- Prepare and present comprehensive program reports to the Executive Director and the board of directors.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in project management, social sciences, public health, human rights, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of program management experience, ideally in the non-profit sector.
- Proven experience working with intersex communities or other marginalized groups.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Intersex Nigeria.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
- The Director of Programs reports directly to the Executive Director and collaborates closely with the programs team.
