Bursar
Job Description
The Bursar is the Chief Financial Officer of the University and is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the management of University finances. Among others, the Bursar has the responsibility to:
- Advise on the general financial policy of the University
- Prepare annual estimate of income and expenditure
- Monitor the income and expenditure in relation to budget and presenting the report to the Vice-Chancellor
- Keep the accounts of the University and prepare statement of financial activities and financial position
- Maintain a cash flow process for the current and future years
- Advise on financial investment of the University Administer pension scheme for teaching and non-teaching staff
- Scrutinize and pass requisite financial documents for payment and invoices
- Organize special appeals for capital projects and endowment funds
- Keep analysis of cost and other statistical records
- Advise on taxation methods and compliance.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates for the post of Bursar must possess the following:
- A good honors Degree (not below second class upper division) in Accounting or related disciplines and fellow membership of ICAN and CITN plus any other membership of the following recognized professional accounting bodies namely: ACCA, ACMA and CPA;
- Not older than 50 years of age; At least fifteen (15) years cognate post-qualification experience, at least three (3) of which should have been as a Deputy Bursar in a University or relevant tertiary institution of higher learning:
- Clean and impeccable records of service;
- Evidence of high level of professional competence;
- Evidence of computer literacy and must be conversant with accounting and auditing software,
- High degree of accountability, transparency, integrity and probity;
- The ability to command respect, engender cooperation and with a strong team building ability;
- Competence in job planning and organization; ) High level of integrity and transparency in private and public life; and
- Excellent physical and mental health.
Tenure
- The Bursar shall be appointed by the Governing Council for a term of four (4) years in the first instance and may be renewed for a final term of four (4) years.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of Bursar in Nigerian Universities and as may be determined from time to time by the University Governing Council.

- Proposed Date of Availability for Duties, if appointed
- Twenty-five (25) copies of the candidate’s Statement of Vision for the Bursary for the next four (4) years and beyond.
